Institutional Resource History
Volunteer-Led Knowledge, Made Economically Visible
The Calling Digest began in March 2023 with a research-intensive foundation year. Since then, a small financial base has supported an expanding body of publications, political analysis, learning programs, tools, dialogue and institutional knowledge produced largely through volunteer and in-kind professional work.
Financial records capture the money available to an organization. They do not fully capture the professional labour, knowledge, time and in-kind contribution that make knowledge institutions possible. This resource history presents both dimensions while keeping them distinct.
USD figures are indicative references only. THB is the primary valuation currency. Cash conversion reflects year-sensitive XE historical mid-market reference rates; the replacement valuation uses the XE reference rate at 31 March 2026.
TCD did not operate without resources. It operated largely without monetizing those resources. Research labour, writing, analysis, teaching, facilitation, design, coordination, political knowledge and personal time formed a substantial part of the institution's resource base.

Conservative Replacement-Cost Valuation
Replacement cost asks what another organization might reasonably have needed to spend to reproduce comparable research, writing, analysis, training and institutional work at modest professional rates.

03 · Valuation Basis
How We Estimated Professional Contribution
The valuation uses lower-bound professional replacement assumptions and intentionally avoids assigning monetary value to social impact.
Long-form publications
Includes research, literature review, analytical development, writing, editing, translation where applicable, proofreading and publication preparation. Printing cost is treated separately from the intellectual work required to create a publication.
News-in-Views
Thirteen analytical bulletins are valued at a modest ฿25,000 per completed bulletin, reflecting monitoring, analysis, interpretation, writing and editorial work.
Learning & training
The estimate reflects curriculum development, preparation, facilitation, delivery, learning materials and coordination across collaborative activities reaching approximately 700 learners.
Partial inventories
Political Harm research, PCS briefs, games, tools, events, website and institutional development are not yet comprehensively inventoried. Their present figures therefore remain deliberately conservative.

What This History Shows
Between March 2023 and March 2026, The Calling Digest developed through a volunteer-led model in which professional knowledge, labour and in-kind contribution accounted for a substantial share of its institutional capacity.
Documented cash and operating resources for 2023–2025 total approximately ฿290,500. Separately, the conservative replacement-cost estimate for uncompensated research, publications, analysis, learning and institutional work is at least ฿4.1 million.
Together, these represent an indicative economic resource value of approximately ฿4.39 million (about US$134,000) across the period reviewed.
