Perspectives within Civil Society (PCS) is a continuing working-paper series from The Calling Digest that looks at how familiar political and organizational terms are understood differently across Myanmar’s civil society, aid, resistance, humanitarian, and international institutional worlds. The series is based on interviews and qualitative observations rather than representative surveys. Its purpose is not to decide that one definition is correct, or to treat every difference as a fault line. Instead, each issue takes one apparently ordinary term or practice and asks. What different political meanings are being carried here, and what becomes visible when we compare them?

Perspectives within Civil Society is a continuing interpretive working-paper series from The Calling Digest, drawing on interviews, observations, public discussions, documents, and reflections from our engagements. The series began by using interpretive orientations to make recurring differences in political meaning visible, but increasingly treats worldviews as journeys rather than boxes-situated positions that can shift, combine, and change through encounter. Its purpose is not to decide which perspective should defeat another, but to explore what different positions reveal or obscure, where synthesis is possible, and where disagreement remains real. Each brief is exploratory rather than representative, and remains open to comparison, challenge, and revision.
